When opening assets in Unreal Engine, they often show up in a new window. However, this behavior can be changed, and there are a few different options for how asset editors can open.
It can be adjusted by changing the Asset Editor Open Location parameter under General >> Appearance in the Editor Preferences. My personal preference is to open them in the main window, as shown in the screenshot below.
Once set, blueprints, materials, animations, and other assets will open as tabs rather than separate windows. It’s a small change, but it helps keep everything in one place while working.
